Upside AMS is built and maintained by Code and Effect, a small, independent software company in Edmonton, Alberta.
How we got
We started as a custom software company. Code and Effect didn't set out to build an AMS. Early on, several of our clients were associations and regulatory bodies -- organizations with complex membership rules, compliance requirements, and renewal cycles. We built custom solutions for each one.
Patterns emerged. After building the same core features -- membership databases, application workflows, renewal engines, payment processing -- for multiple organizations, we realized we were solving the same fundamental problems again and again. So we decided to build a platform.
Upside AMS was born. Today, Upside AMS is a multi-tenant platform serving 15+ organizations and 150,000+ members. Every feature has been shaped by real associations with real operational challenges.
Fully funded by customers. No investors, no board of directors, no pressure to chase growth at the expense of service. Every decision we make is guided by one question: does this make things better for our clients?
What we
Relationships first
It's important to us to work with customers we like and care about. We know all our clients by their first names, and they know us. No chatbots or call centres. Just good people helping good people.
Growth shouldn't be penalized
Your association growing from 500 to 5,000 members shouldn't mean your software bill triples. We don't charge per member, per seat, or per email. Our pricing is all-inclusive. As you use Upside AMS, you'll unlock its potential and develop new ideas for improving it for your organization. Great! We work together to continually enhance how you and your membership use the platform.
Your data belongs to you
Every organization's data lives in its own dedicated database. You can export it at any time. If you ever decide to leave, we'll help with the transition and hand over everything.
Software should fit your needs, not the other way around
Too many associations twist their processes to fit their software. We do it the other way around - configuring the platform to match your bylaws, your fee structures, your workflows, and your policies.
